Is it compulsory to lift our hands during worship?
Often times during sessions of worship, you may find that some people lift up their hands towards the heavens and may wonder if it is really necessary to do so.
Well, keep reading to find out.
Significance Of the Lifting of our Hands in worship
~In Psalm 141: 2 the Bible says “Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” (KJV). The scripture shows us that when we worship God we bring Him sacrifices, it’s not enough to say “I’ve come to worship God”, where is your sacrifice? Lifting up of our hands, will not be all the sacrifices, but it’s one of them.
~In offering sacrifices to God, it is important that we offer it the way He requires us to in order for it to be acceptable, it’s not enough for you to just offer sacrifice it must be done rightly. 1 Peter 2:5 says “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” It shows there clearly that it should be “acceptable” meaning that it should qualify as a proper sacrifice to God.
~It is even more significant because the Bible shows us that the Lord desires that we lift up our hands. 1 Timothy 2:8 “I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” This shows us that it is a necessary requirement in praising or worshiping God.
After all, that’s been communicated to you, make a conscious effort to lift up your hands when it comes to praising and worshiping the Lord.
